What to expect when you get in touch
-
I will always reply to an inquiry and I aim to do so within 48 hours, so if it has been a few days and you've not heard from me, please do check your spam.
-
If I have availability, I will suggest a time for an initial session. This first session is a free, 50-minute consultation and typically the aim would be to have this session within two-three weeks of your inquiry.
-
Ahead of the first session, I will send you the details you need to attend in person or online and will also share my contract for your reference.
-
In the first session we will discuss what has led you to get in touch and what you might be looking to work on and/or hoping for from therapy. You do not need to have clear answers and part of this first session is help us both get an initial sense of how we might work together and if we might be a good fit.
Working together
I offer short term and open ended therapy both in person and online depending on your needs.

Short-term therapy is typically six to 12 sessions and best suited for clients who either have a clear goal in mind, like wanting to cut down how much they are drinking each week; or clients who know there is a specific time when they might need support, like leaving one job and starting another.

Open ended therapy is better suited for clients who are looking to work on something which has perhaps been building up for what feels like a while or something which touches on a number of different, if not all, parts of their lives.

If you are not sure which might be better for you, this is something we can talk through and nothing is set in stone, for example it might be that after working on a short term goal, you decide there is more you want to explore.
I also appreciate the idea of open-ended therapy might be a bit daunting which is why we will regularly check in to reflect on how the process is going.
This collaborative approach is an important part of how I work and training in multiple models of psychological care helps me to tailor my approach to each individual client. Each model has its strengths and weaknesses but what we know ultimately has the most impact, is how good the relationship between the client and the therapist is. Insight is always useful and facilitating a greater understanding of yourself is an important part of the work, but what elevates that insight is our connection and the way we share in our understanding of you.

Working together is about just that, and through compassion and curiosity and care, I will work to create a space that allows for that learning.
